Kate Liu at the Royal Castle in Warsaw

The same could be said about Kate Liu that was said about Fryderyk Chopin more than a century and a half ago

The recital given last Sunday by Kate Liu at the Royal Castle in Warsaw was one of the great musical events of the year.

Subject to offering an analysis of the performance of the Singapore-born pianist who is living in a Chicago suburb, I will have to concentrate for now on the phenomenon of general admiration reminiscent of the Latin expression Vox populi, vox Dei.

The approval currently expressed in Poland and other countries for the performances of the charismatic pianist evokes the popular reaction that emerged in 2015, during the XVII International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. Kate Liu was the crowd favorite who awarded her the prize for the best performance of a mazurka.

The avalanche of praise for Kate Lu from the music lovers on the YouTube site is so remarkable that it seems to the author of this blog that what was said by one of Chopin's contemporaries about the community of followers the composer had could also apply in her praise. In this case it would be:

"We belong to the church of Kate Liu: we not only love her, but we also love each other in her."
